Qualifications
Biosignature modulation practitioner - with the man himself Charles Poliquin :) - This course teaches you that where you store body fat in the body is related to different hormones. For example belly fat is reduced to cortisol (stress hormone). So to reduce fat on this site may involve looking at emotional stress, chemical stress, food intolerance, types of food eaten and MUCH more. This course has made it hard for my clients not to lose body fat :)
Chek Practitioner level 1 - qualified 2012 with a great teacher Mark Buckley. What I like most about the C.H.E.K programme is the lifestyle and nutrition information that you learn. You use questionnaires to find out about a clients stress levels, sleep, diet, digestion and emotional state and help them accordingly. One of my favourite parts of this course was learning about infant development. It's really interesting... when a client struggles with a particular movement it's often related to them missing a part of the process infants are designed to go through. We also learnt about primal movement patterns and learnt many tests for assessing posture, flexibility and spinal assessments
Chek Exercise coach - qualified 2010 - what I took away from this course was the 4 best Doctors you will ever find are within you. Dr quiet (sleep, spiritual development...), Dr happiness (legacy, dreams, creativity...), Dr. diet (food quality, hydration, satiation), work out or work in (work in to build energy when recovering from illness/ highly stressed). I love the philosophy of Paul Chek 'coach your client into wholeness through intelligent movement and natural means.'
Yoga as Therapy - qualified 2010 - with a lovely teacher Doug Keller. Learnt about how to use breath and yoga asana to help with structural misalignments. The highlight of this course was when Doug brought a young boy with scoliosis into the class and worked with him. It was beautful Doug is such a kind and compassionate teacher and there was visible change to the boys posture afterwards :)
Boxercise personal trainer - qualified in 2010 - This course was alot of fun and after 8 hours a day of learning correct boxing technique (and you always had to punch as hard as you could!) I could't move for about a week... the pain!!
Childhood obesity prevention training 2009- Previously I worked on a Government run scheme to reduce weight in children from 5-13 years old. I ran nutrition sessions for the parents and children which were great fun. We would look at a different subject each week for example suagary drinks. We would give out drinks such as coke and yazoo and get the parents and kids to put the amount of sugar cubes into a cup. They would be shocked! We also done healthy eating workshops where we made fresh smoothies and salads :)
Nutrition with BSc - 2009. I decided to go back to studying after working in the fitness industry for 3 years. I had a thirst for more knowledge :) Really enjoyed learning and came out with top marks!
Vinyasa flow yoga teacher - 2009. I practised yoga throughout University and it completely changed my life. I decided to travel to the mountains in Portugal and train as a yoga teacher after I graduated. What an AMAZING experience. Opened my eyes to a whole new world :))
In 2008 I qualified as a Personal Trainer. I was sick of working in gyms and decided to go and work on a cruise ship. I ran the gym and taught classes!! This was alot of fun. To be honest there was ALOT of partying, not much sleeping and I'm not sure how I managed to be up at 6am everyday to open the gym!OCR certificate in gym, step, aerobics and circuits 2004. This was my first ever qualification in the health and fitness industry. I remember having to teach an aerobics session for the first time for one of my exams. I was soooo nervous. I practised my routine over and over and could probably still remember it now :) After I qualified I began working in a ladies only gym which I loved! Then I decided to move somewhere bigger (where there were boys too ;) so I moved to Virgin Active.
